Come out this evening to support children and a crime free weekend for a better Nashville

For our African-American brothers and sisters in Nashville, the summer of 2008 has not been a fruitful time.

Murders of good people have continued in north, west and east Nashville. Business owners are under constant threat to their lives.

Worse, the future has also been endangered. The Metro Schools board voted recently to return Nashville to separate but unequal education. The Nashville NAACP has rightly stepped forward to challenge this outrage.

This evening at 5:30 in north Nashville(corner of 28th and Clifton) will be a moment of hope, brought to us by one of the greatest prophets of our time, the Rev. Enoch Fuzz. Below are the details of this evening's event to encourage a peaceful weekend and prepare for the school year for neighborhood children.

Please consider coming out. And on your way, stop by Walgreens or Walmart or whatever retailer and buy about a dozen notebooks of paper and a few backpacks to be given away at the event.

Here is how Rev. Fuzz envisions the event:

For a West Nashville Crime Free Weekend
Friday and Saturday August 8 - 9, 2008

At Tuesdays Nite Out Observance, I will declare the first Crime Free Weekend in West Nashville's Hadley Park, College Hill, Preston Taylor and Clifton Avenue Neighborhood. It will be two days of no violence, no drugs, no profanity, no robbery or thiefs. A weekend for parents and children to spend quality family times enjoying life in the neighborhood. And on Sunday I suggest everyone attend a church worship service of their choice.

The concept for the Crime Free Weekend is a vision I recieved from working over the past 12 years with a group of men in my church community. They formed an organization, Have A Child For A Day. Every year for for the past 12 they've put together The Easter Egg Communty Jam, the Don't Knock on My Door Halloween Bash, Back to School Picnic, and the Toys for the Neighborhhood Kids Rally. The purpose of their organization was to rally the neighborhood to take days that were set aside to spend with the children doing positive activities.

At their last event held Easter 2008 over $100.000.00 in dry goods food supplies were distributed thanks to one of our community partners.

The men in this organization passionately spread to word to the neighborhood to come together in support of their efforts. I am deeply gratified for their instant committment to assist in making the Crime Free Weekend a reality. And I am just as grateful that I know our friends in Metro Law enforcement will lend their cooperation to this initiative. I am requesting Chief Ronal Serpas, my friends in the Nashville News Media, former Tennessean columnist Tim Chavez, and radio station WVOL where I have hosted a community issues and information talk show since 2001, to join us to promote this vision to reality.

My radio talk show is called Just Talkin on WVOL, but it ain't Just Talking.
Our Community Need Words That Have Hands and Feet.
