The Tennessean's first original reporting on Juana Villegas' torture is much appreciated, needed

The Tennessean today published its first original reporting on the torture of Mrs. Juana Villegas in two stories on the front top of the Local section.

The stories are very appreciated in establishing a local public record of this outrage that occurred over six days in early July at the hands of Nashville authorities.

The Tennessean can reclaim its leadership role in covering the wrongs of the 287g deportation program in Nashville with continued reporting as displayed this morning.

Mrs. Villegas' hearing in Berry Hill is scheduled for Aug. 15. The Associated Press, The New York Times and The Boston Globe have established a national record. The Tennessean's coverage and leadership are desperately needed locally to bring human rights back to Music City.
