Electric bills will be rising to help pay for overspending; call it 'The Obama tax hike' on all Americans, particularly the most impoverished

A friend of mine sent me the following message:

DUE TO RECENT BUDGET CUTS, AND
THE RISING COST OF ELECTRICITY,
GAS AND OIL, THE LIGHT AT THE END
OF THE TUNNEL HAS BEEN TURNED OFF.
WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE

Sincerely,

The U.S. Government

It's kind of funny. But if you are counting your dollars in your household, it is a warning of things to come.

The Obama budget proposes carbon emission caps on utilities to raise money to pay for wild spending plans. Utilities always pass on costs to consumers.

That means you will be paying higher electric bills.

Now the President says you'll be receiving a cut in your payroll taxes April 1 to help compensate. If you believe that government ever refunds its overspending, then you're in for a rude surprise. And consider the damage to poor families.

God help them. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner today on Capitol Hill did such a poor job of explaining the reason for raising utility costs on people during a recession of such severity.

Yes, we must make the shift to cleaner energy. But don't do it when people are suffering so much now and through 2010. This does not help them make ends meet.

Yes, lights will be going out across the country -- not only because of rising utility costs but due to a loss of hope in decisions by Washington.
