After listening to NewsChannel 5's Hope Hines blather on just now about how Vince Young needs to grow up, I had to rise from chemo-weak state and respond.
Hines is the weakest of the Metro Nashville sportscasters. If he didn't want to go back on the air like Young is accused of in Sunday's game, viewers would be receiving a favor.
The reason why Young appears gun shy during and after Sunday's performance is because of one man: Mr. Bad Hairdo of the Millennium Bud Adams.
The Titans were in the perfect position after landing Young from Texas. Starting QB Steve McNair was a free agent and looking for some big cash. McNair would have been perfect to be re-signed for two years. In the first one, he could start and mentor Young. In the second, Young could start and McNair would back him up. And the Titans would have made the playoffs in both years.
But Bud took the cheap way out. And Young was forced to start in his first year. He surprised enough defenses to win enough games and win Rookie of the Year. Then defenses learned how to defense him in his second season. He also started getting hurt. Still, the Titans made the playoffs.
Now the young man is hurting emotionally, and he deserves fan support instead of booing. And he doesn't need nonsense like that from Hines' mouth tonight.
Fisher also could use some support. The guy is the longest-tenured active coach in the NFL, and that's because he is damned good. The Tennessean's Sunday newspaper headline asking if Fisher is overrated was ridiculous.
To Vince, keep your head high. A lot of us are still rooting for you. And the same goes to Coach Fisher, who is as outstanding a coach as he is a role model in the community for giving back.
Good guys come out on top. Vince Young and Jeff Fisher are two of those good goys and more. Fans, please let them know it.
