'More with less' spin shows Tennessean still believes readers are stupid; Gold Star Mom and Dad cancel subscription due to anti-military bias

A local Gold Star family, whose son gave his life for our freedoms in Iraq, recently canceled their subscription to The Tennessean. They, like so many military families, had tired of the newspaper's anti-military leanings on its news and editorial pages.

From my 10 years there, I can tell you that the anti-military bias was prevalent. And it remains. One of its prominent news columnists once remarked when a retired general died, "oh, he's just an old general" -- meaning his death deserved no newspaper coverage in her thinking.

I bring up the the subscription cancellation, because Tennessean editor Mark Silverman again is lying to readers. He claimed Sunday, with the newspaper killing its separate business section along with other cost cutbacks, that readers will be getting more of a watchdog role from The Tennessean.

Bullshit.

The only increased watchdog role at The Tennessean will be if the company buys a pit bull and puts it at the entrance to the building at 1100 Broadway.

I am stunned that Silverman and his cohorts still think they can fool the readers. They didn't with my friends, whose son died to allow The Tennessean and all other media do what they do.

And you as readers should know of the subscription cancellation by the Gold Star family in making your decision as to where to put your money and loyalties with a newspaper that has no loyalty to you.
