Bush in final press conference shows his humanity -- faults and all in leading the nation and world

President George W. Bush in his final press conference this morning displayed the full range of his humanity -- faults and all -- including thanking the press.

He was strongest in reminding everyone the atmosphere after 9/11 and the heightened fear of another attack.

He was weakest on the same topic, citing his defense of the Constitution while protecting the nation. Bush failed that test, not only in the heightened eavesdropping on American lives but the violation of due process in a savage enforcement of immigration laws.

Bush inferred that he will be quite active in his post-presidency. So look for a Jimmy Carter-like post presidency. Despite his low poll ratings, the American people are most forgiving. He will find welcome in every part of the nation.
