An economy turning downward has put new steam behind a long effort to consolidate Shelby County and Memphis city governments. Both sides meet today to discuss the issue.
Even if both sides agree, the Tennessee General Assembly will need to allow Memphis city government to eliminate its charter for consolidation. But it looks like this renewed effort for consolidation is for real.
And this progressive city and county will continue to move beyond Metro Nashville as a place of solutions, not problems.
