Tomorrow night's debate moderator has a monstrous conflict on interest, bias toward Obama

The conservative news media and blogosphere are abuzz this morning about a real shocker: the media moderator of tomorrow night's VP debate has a book about to debut highlighting the rise of Sen. Barack Obama and its effect on black politics.

The book will be released on Inauguration Day, 2009. So for the book to do well, Obama must be elected president.

PBS' Gwen Ifill should be immediately replaced as moderator due to her conflict of interest. Her financial future and success of her book are tied to Obama winning the presidency. She cannot be expected to question John McCain's running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, with objectivity. And that is crucial to the American people.

Journalists love to claim they are superhuman beings and can set aside their bias when covering politics and politicians. But we as viewers and readers know better than that. Yet Ifill's gross conflict of interest goes even beyond that.

CBS' Katie Couric would be a fitting replacement for Ifill since she has questioned both vice presidential candidates at length. Allowing Ifill to still moderate the debate is completely unacceptable.

Crap like this has been normal practice. Give Obama interviews by his supporters so that they handle him with kid gloves and send in the sharks to go after Sarah Palin. Only time will tell, but Palin seems to still have the Republican ticket on high ground.
