Good and bad news, based on your perspective

News reports have TV's Homer Simpson endorsing Sen. Barack Obama, and Sen. John McCain is giving up on his campaign in Michigan.

The Simpson endorsement on a future show can mean that even someone as stupid as Homer sees that Obama is the best choice for president. Or, only stupid people such as Homer would vote for Obama.

The Michigan report about McCain deserting the state and its 17 electoral votes means his refusal to refute NAFTA is going to cost him needed blue collar votes. And he has to win Ohio and Pennsylvania on Nov. 4 or he is done.

But for Obama, any renegotiation of NAFTA would require foreign policy experience he does not have. And the candidate still has not visited Mexico and other Latin American countries during the campaign. That makes him Bush 2000-like.

So there you have it. Whether these reports are good or bad depends on your political and personal perspectives.
