O.J. Simspon's conviction may grant relief to all

The conviction last night of O.J. Simpson for roberry and kidnapping will probably remove him from the public eye for the next decade at least.

Many people will see his conviction as the justice system finally catching up to the fleet, juking figure on the field and off. He was acquitted 15 years ago of murdering his wife and a young man. It's amazing that so much time has passed.

Other people may see the verdict as justice and legal authorities finally getting a figure they've harrassed for the past 15 years. Simpson's attorney, the late Johnnie Cochran, Jr., certainly created enough doubt to his client's guilt in 1995. Cochran was a great attorney.

Americans still have not resolved that verdict as far as race relations and different experiences in the land of the free and home of the brave. The campaign of Sen. Barack Obama has since thrown a different angle into this discussion or lack of one.

Simpson's sentencing is to come. He could receive life in prison. The only certainty is that he will be removed from public sight and debate for some time if he fails in his appeals. That may be best for everyone involved.
