Pelosi again fails as leader, this time on ethics

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told an incredulous political and media world yesterday that she had just learned of ethics problems with a Florida Democratic congressman involved in an alleged sexual scandal.

Way too late, Pelosi yesterday announced an alleged ethics investigation into a $121,000 hush-up payment by the congressman to a former mistress. And this congressman replaced another Democratic lawmaker who had more ethics problems.

The real seriousness, however, is Pelosi's lack of integrity. ABC News reports that efforts have been ongoing for quite some time to keep the congressman's alleged shenanigans from undercutting his re-election. Yet Pelosi emerged yesterday with wide, deer eyes, claiming she learned "today" of the allegations.

Pelosi increasingly is showing herself to be an obstacle to the kind of change Sen. Barack Obama wants to bring to Washington. More such shameful antics by Pelosi and her other Democratic leaders forbodes ill for Obama if he wins the presidency.
