Block automaker bailout in Congress or else

When America's elected leaders cannot solve a pressing national problem, they decide to appoint a czar over the issue.

And so the talk on Capitol Hill to appoint a czar over the Big 3 automakers will duplicate the gross lack of success America realized when it had such an omnipotent power over illegal drugs and poor schools. And have those problems disappeared? No, they've grown larger.

The bailout on Capitol Hill must be stopped. And that means calling or e-mailing the offices of Democrats. They're backing this outrageous plan. The GOP to its credit is making a stand and telling the Big 3 to go into bankruptcy court just you and me and small businesses would have to do.

So get on the phone or on the Internet. If this bailout passes, more industries will follow, even perhaps the corporate owner of The Tennessean and a bunch of other newspapers across the country. And you know how much Gannett deserves to be helped.
