More Tennessean, Gannett layoffs to come? Company says headcount to be in low teens

The super website, www.gannettblogspot.com, reports the following from Gannett's top guy today about the willingness of the corporation to layoff more people in the new year:

Dubow: Gannett girding for more job cuts in '09
CEO Craig Dubow just told a Wall Street media conference that Gannett is prepared to cut more jobs next year, following the recent 10% reduction in the newspaper division workforce.

"We are always going to size to the revenue that is there," Dubow said, adding that decisions will be made market-by-market. "We're going to have to see where and how the economy reacts next year.''

Earlier, Chief Financial Officer Gracia Martore said of holiday-related advertising and other revenue: "The next three weeks are crucial to our results." In the first two months of the current quarter, she said, total revenue is down about 14% from a year ago.

Their remarks came on the third and final day of the 36th annual media week conference in New York City. I'm listening to the Webcast (you can, too), but not live-blogging quite like I did last year. UBS investment bank is the sponsor.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Gannett said headcount ultimately would be in the "low teens".(thousands)

A lot of Gannettoids and former ones on the website have been pointing to February to more cuts. Heaven help the good people who remain at The Tennessean and other newspapers and the readers who still are buying these compromised products.

People always hate to talk about when they are laid off. But as it has become every day's news headline since Yahoo started it with cutting 1500 of its task force last year, now a need of platform has been in demand where people can express their selves in words how they are feeling about their company, whey the got laid off was that justified or not.
And every thing they want to tell anonymously. And www.layoffgossip.com is providing you that platform.
