Choice, immigrants will survive GOP Gn'l Assembly

A reader makes a good point that the GOP-controlled General Assembly will unleash a host of social-oriented legislation from abortion to immigrants.

That's true. Yet the abortion legislation would put the matter of state constitutional interpretation to a vote of the people. I believe the case can be made successfully to preserve choice.

It's also true that anti-immigrant legislation will probably pass. But on the Nov. 14th front page of El Crucero in Nashville, the pictures of three Democratic lawmakers were featured, including Rep. Mike Turner and Sen. Thelma Harper.

Immigrants will survive this legislation. Choice also can survive. The bigger issues will be stopping the giant cuts to TennCare and state worker numbers pushed by a Democratic governor. Becoming allies with Republican leaders is the best way to go.
