More layoffs to come today at The Tennessean; other Gannett newspapers across the country will do same

If you want to read something that will break your heart, go to www.gannettblog.blogspot.com and read the "comments" section from employees who have been laid off or watched others get the boot in newsrooms around the nation.

You'll get an idea about how much good employees and good journalism are valued by the nation's largest newspaper company. And you'll see that every industry -- even one dedicated to keeping the people of this republic informed -- is at risk to profit and greed.

It's a sad day for all of us, particularly during the holidays. And it still makes you wonder where American citizens and Middle Tennesseans will go for information they need to build better communities and lives.

The Tennessean began layoffs yesterday, getting rid of six newsroom employees, including an editor at Williamson A.M. I'll provide you more updates today and say a prayer for these good souls cast aside at Christmastime.
